Husn-e-Jaana By Muzaffar Ali

by Mohib on December 24, 2006

I am a big fan of albums composed by Muzaffar Ali. First there was that amazing compilation Raqs-e-Bismil (dance of the wounded) sung by the sublime Abida Parveen. Then there was Paigham-e-Mohabbat with an eclectic mix of singers like Sukhwinder, Abida Parveen, Chhaya Ganguli, Kavita Krishnamuthy et al. And now Husn-e-Jaana with Ghazals and nazms of Nazir Akbarabadi, Mir Taqi Mir, Amir Khusrau and Quli Qutub Shah. It does not feature Abida Parveen this time but even the relatively unknown singers have done a wonderful job.

I tried looking for the lyrics on the web but couldn’t find them. Nor the album. So, here it is for your listening pleasure.

Do not overlook my misery by blandishing your eyes,
and weaving tales; My patience has over-brimmed,
O sweetheart, why do you not take me to your bosom.
Long like curls in the night of separation,
short like life on the day of our union;
My dear, how will I pass the dark dungeon night
without your face before.
Suddenly, using a thousand tricks, the enchanting eyes robbed me
of my tranquil mind;
Who would care to go and report this matter to my darling?
Tossed and bewildered, like a flickering candle,
I roam about in the fire of love;
Sleepless eyes, restless body,
neither comes she, nor any message.
In honour of the day I meet my beloved
who has lured me so long, O Khusrau;
I shall keep my heart suppressed,
if ever I get a chance to get to her trick.

Thanks, this is just fabulous ! I listened to these after such a long time. Only after reading your post that this album is specially significant for bringing Nazir Akbarabadi’s nazms.

There was another album that Muzzafar Ali was associated with (not sure if he composed the music too)- Jahan e Khusrau

hi,

its such a fine album, great lyrics great music.. (great fan of his earlier works too).
and you did a great job by putting up the lyrics n songs.

but imho, i think in the song “na tum honge…”

its ‘na Ye … ” instead of ‘nayii’ … u can specifically hear the ‘Ye” sound..
also it makes more sense to me in that it conveys the end of everything as we know it.
